It`s a 4-week program with Spanish classes in Ecuador, accommodation, transport and the best activities included. You will visit 4 different Spanish language schools in Ecuador along the way. The program will start in Quito, the capital of Ecuador. In week 2, either you can explore the charming colonial city of Cuenca. Or you could join us for an overwhelming jungle experience in the Amazon. And in the third and last week of the program. We will enjoy the coastal fishing town of Manta, and catch the waves in Montañita: the most famous surf- and party spot among backpackers in South America. Yes by far! Week 1: Quito

In the first week, you will explore the capital of Ecuador surrounded by highlands and volcanic peaks. Your time at the Spanish school in Quito will be full of fun activities. We plan a trip to the ‘Mitad del Mundo’, an excursion to Cotopaxi National Park, a tour of the old town, and visits to museums, salsa classes, and an Ecuadorean cooking class. After all these experiences and your first Spanish lessons, you will have the first feel of Ecuador and be immersed in Ecuadorian culture and the language.

Week 2: Amazon Jungle or Cuenca (it`s your choice!)

This week the choice is yours! If you want to learn Spanish in the most biodiverse area of the Ecuadorean Amazon Rainforest. Then pick the Amazon as your new base. The Spanish school in the jungle promotes a sustainable balance with indigenous communities, traditional cultural values, and the natural environment. The week is full of action with tubing down the Amazon river, raft building, trekking to discover the Island of Birds, and a visit to indigenous communities. Here you will use a blowgun and drink a traditional Chicha drink. You can participate in cultural activities such as gold washing and artisanal ­shing. Some weeks we also visit the Amazonian animal rescue center.

If you rather go to a school in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, then the Spanish school in Cuenca will be a better pick! Enjoy the historic center in the eternal spring while you witness the abundance of art, colonial buildings, and cultural and music events. Your week in Cuenca will be full of many activities. Such as a salsa class, a city tour, a visit to the stunning central bank museum, a traditional Ecuadorian cooking class, a visit to the archeological site of Incapirca, the ruins of Pumapungo, and the Inca garden. On Saturday we offer you also the option to do a thrill that you really can’t do at home. We include as an optional activity a day trip to Baños, a thermal spa.

Week 3: Manta

On the third week of the Traveling Classroom, you will learn Spanish in one of our intimate classrooms, on the rooftop where you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Paci­c Ocean. Or sometimes we have lessons next to the swimming pool, where you can take a refreshing dip. Manta is well known for the best seafood restaurants and for enjoying wonderful beaches on the coast side of Ecuador. Also, this week is very busy and full of fun! We go on a trip to Montecristi (origin of Panama hats) where we visit Museo Ciudad Alfaro. Here you can see an impressive overview of Ecuadorian history. We will go paragliding in Crucita, visit the ‘Tagua’ handicraft shops, and a tour to Isla de la Plata, where you can enjoy rare and exotic wildlife including blue-footed boobies and nesting albatrosses. Last but not least, you can participate in a salsa dancing class and an Ecuadorean cooking class.

Week 4: Montañita

In the last week of this language adventure, you will learn Spanish in one of the most well-known surf destinations in the world. Montañita is the perfect place if you are looking to improve your Spanish skills. While here, you can enjoy everything that coastal Ecuador has to offer. Such as sandy beaches, world-class surfi­ng, wildlife, culture, and of course a nightlife that is second to none. The local people of Montañita are extremely open and inviting, you will have no problems ­ending someone with whom to practice those new skills you have been working on in class. This week you will catch every day the waves. You will have 5 surfing lessons and like other activities, we offer you salsa and yoga classes during the week. There is also a surf trip planned on Saturday.

Spanish lessons 

The Spanish classes in Ecuador are very structured and professional. All Spanish language schools are qualified and they will create a friendly and fun environment to learn Spanish in Ecuador. This program includes small group lessons of max 6 persons. You will have 20 hours of group lessons at all locations except for the Amazon. Except at the jungle location. There you will receive 15 hours of group lessons.

Accommodation

During your stay, you will live with a welcoming host family in Quito, Cuenca, and Manta, in a private bedroom with two meals provided daily (breakfast and dinner). In the Amazon, you will stay in a shared dorm and full board (three meals provided daily). And in Montañita you will stay in a shared cabana. Here you will have no meals included but there is a large kitchen to use. With many other students, it`s easy to meet people to cook with!

General info

The Traveling Classroom goes along 4 places and in the second week you can choose or you want to study in Cuenca or the Amazon. You will continue for the third week with your group to Manta and finally end your Spanish adventure in Montañita. If you only want to follow a certain part of the Traveling Classroom. Ask us or we can make a special price. Every week the group is somewhere so technically it is possible to start every Sunday/Monday of the week. We always recommend starting the week in Quito.
